Cookies and storage

No tracking cookies, no ads, no analytics. Here is every single thing the game keeps in your browser, and why.

The short version

  • We don't set any cookies ourselves, and we don't use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies of any kind.
  • The game uses your browser's local storage to remember your settings, your progress and whether you're signed in.
  • All of it is needed for the game to work or remembers a choice you made, which is why there's no cookie banner.
  • Stripe's checkout page and Google's sign-in page are run by them and use their own cookies.

This summary is here to help. The full details are below.

What the game stores in your browser

Local storage is a small space in your browser where a website can keep information on your device. Unlike cookies, it isn't sent to our servers with every request. The game uses these entries:

NameWhat it's forWhen it's usedHow long it stays
fromAshes.settingsYour settings: music, sound effect and voice volumes, subtitles, frame rate limit, FPS counter, shadows, resolution, length of a day and weather.AlwaysUntil you reset your settings or clear site data
fromAshes.guestSaveYour progress while you play without signing in. When you first sign in, it moves to your account.Playing without an accountUntil you sign in or clear site data
sb-…-auth-tokenKeeps you signed in. Holds your sign-in session from Supabase, our account provider: secure tokens, your account ID and email. The middle part of the name is our project's ID.Signed in to an online accountUntil you sign out or the session ends
fromAshes.offlineDbOffline mode only: accounts made on this device (email, username and a hashed password), their saves and friends, and bug reports saved offline. It never leaves your device.Builds running in offline modeUntil you clear site data
fromAshes.offlineUserOffline mode only: which offline account is signed in on this device.Builds running in offline modeUntil you sign out or clear site data

Under the EU and UK rules on cookies and similar technologies (the ePrivacy rules), storage that is strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for, or to remember a choice you made, doesn't need consent. Everything above falls into that group. If we ever want to add something that isn't strictly necessary, we'll ask you first.

Pages and files run by others

  • Stripe checkout. When you buy something, you go to a payment page on Stripe's own website. Stripe uses cookies there to process the payment and prevent fraud. See Stripe's cookie information.
  • Google sign-in. If you choose to sign in with Google, you briefly visit Google's sign-in page, which uses Google's cookies. See how Google uses cookies.
  • Google Fonts. The game's fonts are downloaded from Google's servers. That request shares your IP address and browser details with Google, but Google Fonts doesn't set cookies.
  • Hosting. Our hosting providers (Vercel and Cloudflare) may set a strictly necessary security cookie to tell real visitors from automated attacks. It isn't used to track you.

What we don't do

No advertising cookies, no analytics or measurement tools, no social media pixels, no fingerprinting and no cross-site tracking. We don't sell or share what's in your browser with anyone.

How to clear it

  • Sign out from the account panel to remove your sign-in session.
  • Reset to defaults in the pause menu settings to reset your settings.
  • Clear site data in your browser's settings (look for “cookies and site data” or “website data”) to remove everything listed here.

Clearing site data while you play without an account deletes your progress, and offline accounts with it. We can't get them back. Saves on an online account are safe on our servers.
